    This privacy notice aims to inform you about how we collect and process any information that we collect from you, or that you provide to us.     What personal data we collect and why we collect it

    Comments

    When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

    An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

    Media

    If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

    Contact forms

    We use contact forms to allow site visitors to contact persons or organisations on their listing in the directory. Personal/contact data you send to them will then no longer be the repsonsibility of this website and will be suject to any data protection/privacy terms respetively.

    Cookies

    If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

    If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

    When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

    If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

    Embedded content from other websites

    Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

    Analytics

    Our website is hosted in the UK, but we use Google Analytics (non-UK) to gather statistics about the visits to our website, demographics etc, where this data could be stored outside the UK and also the EU.

    Who we share your data with

    By visiting the website and giving your consent to track your visits to the pages, this will enable us to analyse for trends and to plan for the future of the website. We may be asked to provide annonymised summaries to interested parties. Note that personal details will not be shared, however country of origin and page visit counts may be used to determine the origin of visitors.

    We may be asked to provide details to the relevant authorities if and when asked for crime detection, prevention and legal disputes and we will do so where we are required to do so under law.

    How long we retain your data

    If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

    For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

    Where we send your data

    Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

    Your contact information

    We may collect, use, store and transfer different kinds of personal data about you. We have collated these into groups as follows:

    Your identity includes information such as first name, last name, title, date of birth, and other identifiers that you may have provided at some time.

    How we protect your data

    Data entered into our website, e.g. to message a person/organisation in a listing will be sent to the person(s) concerned and they will reply to you directly. Under that arrangement your data will apply to their data protection and provacy policies respectively.

    We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates to verify our identity to your browser and to encrypt any data you give us.

    Whenever information is transferred between us, you can check that it is done so using SSL by looking for a closed padlock symbol or other trust mark in your browser’s URL bar or toolbar.

    What third parties we receive data from

    Although we do not disclose your personal information to any third party (except as set out in this notice), we sometimes receive data that is indirectly made up from your personal information from third parties whose services we use.

    Third parties may advertise on our website. In doing so, those parties, their agents or other companies working for them may use technology that automatically collects information about you when their advertisement is displayed on our website.

    They may also use other technology such as cookies or JavaScript to personalise the content of, and to measure the performance of their adverts.

    We do not have control over these technologies or the data that these parties obtain. Accordingly, this privacy notice does not cover the information practices of these third parties.
