Description

The story of Torrington and its people, right in the heart of the town. From royal castles to working farms, Neolithic settlements to railways, if it happened in Torrington we’ll tell you about it through changing seasonal displays of objects, photographs and occasional special guests recounting their own first-hand experiences.

Learn about our town’s pivotal place in the English Civil Wars, discover why gloves were surprisingly important, meet the botanist vicar and find out where Glenn Miller’s Euphonium fits in as you walk in the footsteps of Bronze Age hunters, Oliver Cromwell and Henry VIII’s grandmother - amongst others - with a little help from our welcoming volunteers.

Even in the winter months our fundraising bookshop's open every Saturday from 10-2 and we have some brand new books on various bits of the town's history, too... all secondhand ones are £1 each and Commons 365 members get 6 for £5 when you show your membership card.

We're open as a museum from Thursday, March 17th to Saturday, October 29th 2022, so come and visit us Thu-Fri-Sat, 10am - 3pm (Last admission 2:30) and remember: it's free to get in, although donations to help our work are much appreciated. Or why not join our friendly team as a volunteer room guide? Just drop us an email to find out more!
